Mr. William P. Oliver
William P. Oliver, Assistant Director of Bands, a native of Hollywood, FL, received his
Bachelor of Science Degree in music education with high honors from Florida
Agricultural and Mechanical University, where many of his musical beliefs and practices
were fostered and nurtured by Dr. Julian E. White and Dr. Shelby R. Chipman. As
assistant director of band at Stephenson High School, his teaching responsibilities include
the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and the “Sonic Sound” Marching
Band. Prior to his appointment at Stephenson High School, Mr. Oliver has served three
years as the President of Collegiate Music Educators National Conference (Famu
Chapter). He has also served on the Florida MENC State Board as well as the FMEA
Black Caucus as a Collegiate Representative. His professional affiliations include,
Florida Music Educators Association, Georgia Music Educators Associations, Music
Educators National Conference, Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in
Education, Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society, Phi Mu Alpha
Sinfonia Fraternity of America Inc. and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. As much a
musician as an educator, Mr. Oliver received the Outstanding Musicianship Award in
2005 (Phi Mu Alpha), and in 2008, received the Most Outstanding Band Member Award
(Florida A & M Muisc Department). He is currently enrolled in the School of Music at
Boston University where he will receive Master in Music Education.
