Quentin Goins

Mr. Quentin R. Goins has been the Director of Bands at Stephenson High School since the start of the 2007 school year. He has been with the Stephenson Cluster his entire teaching Career, which began as a Student teacher at Stephenson High School under the mentorship of Dr. Marvin A. Pryor in 2001. He then was hired at Stephenson Middle School where he served for two years Assistant Director at over the 6th Grade Instrumental Music program.

Biography

Before becoming the Director of Bands at Stephenson Middle School program, he continued a long tradition of musical excellence, receiving top ratings at GMEA sactioned events. The Stephenson Middle School Symphonic Band performed at the Grand National Adjudicators Invitational in 2006 at Winthrop College in which the band received the distinction as an Honor Ensemble and was also awarded Most Outstanding Percussion section for the Event. The 2007 National Adjudicators Invitational at Atlanta’s Woodruff Art Center Symphony Hall. While teaching middle school Mr. Goins served as an Assistant Director and Staff Arranger With the Stephenson High School Sonic Sound Marching Band.

 

After taking the reins as Director of Bands of the Stephenson High Music Program, Mr. Goins continued the tradition of excellence established by his predecessors. Under his direction the Band has performed in prestigious events such as the 81st Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade New York and 2009 Dixie Classic National Adjudicators Invitational at Atlanta Symphony Hall.The music program continues to receive invitations and accolades for their outstanding Musical performances. Mr. Goins is a native of Monroe, LA. Where he began to study piano and saxophone at an early age. His family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia when he was 10 years of age and he continued to study music in the Dekalb County School System. He attended Redan Elementary, Miller Grove Junior High and is a 1997 graduate of Redan High School. Mr. Goins received his bachelor’s degree in Music Education in the Spring of 2001 from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee, Florida, where he was a conducting student of Dr. William P. Foster, Dr. Julian White and Dr. Shelby Chipman.

 

He also studied applied Saxophone with Dr. John Daniels, arranging with Professor Lindsey Sarjeant. Mr. Goins served as student arranger and section leader of the saxophones for the FAMU “Marching 100”. Mr. Goins is currently pursuing a masters Degree in Education Leadership as Argosy University in Atlanta, Ga.     Mr. Goins holds membership in several professional orgainzations and societies: Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), Music Educators National Conference (MENC), National Band Association (NBA), White and Gold Honor Society, Golden Key Honor Society, Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, and Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity. Mr. Goins has been nominated twice of Teacher of the Year and recommended for Who’s Who in America in 2006.  Mr. Goins now resides in Conyers, Georgia with his wife.
